radiation absorbed dose. The absorption of 1/100th of a joule of ionising radiation per kilogram. A satellite in LEO receives about 1 rad per day. Commercial semiconductors fail after around 2000 rads, military parts must survive even higher doses. The transputer fails at around 10,000 rads. Humans fail after 100 to 200 rads.
