a solitary benign calcifying tumor of hair follicle origin manifested as a sharply circumscribed, firm intracutaneous nodule, usually occurring on the face, neck, or upper extremity, and most often presenting before the age of 20. Histological features include a fibrous stroma surrounding nests of basophilic cells and ghost, or shadow, cells. Called also benign calcifying or calcified epithelioma, calcifying epithelioma of Malherbe, and Malherbe's calcifying epithelioma.
