| meromyosin |
a fragment of the myosin molecule isolated by treatment with proteolytic enzymes; there are two types, heavy (H-meromyosin) and light (L-meromyosin). L-meromyosin makes up the major part of the rodlike backbone of the molecule; H-meromyosin contains the subfragment responsible for the ATPase activity of myosin. See Plate 35 at muscle.
