A large family of plants including annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees and vines. These include plants for food, medicine, timber and pesticides. All bear pea seeds in pods any many have colonies of bacteria on their roots which extract nitrogen from the soil and convert it to compounds useful as food for other plants. An example of this process is Clover. Other legumes include, edible Peas and Beans, Sweet Peas, Acacia and the Silk Tree (Albizia).
