| 설명 | 순환기 질환 중 심장의 병. 일반적으로 심장혈관이나 심장의 병도 포함된다. 병터의 부위에 의한 병리해부학적 분류와 병인에 의한 분류가 있다. 전자는 수 십 년 전부터 쓰여져 왔으나 근년에 와서 본질적인 원인요법이 가능하게 된 이후는 후자의 분류가 의의가 있어서 많이 쓰이게 되었다. 병터 부위로는 심내막(판막)-심장근-심장막, 그 밖의 것을 들 수 있으며, 각각 심내막염-심장판막증-심근염-심근경색-심장막염-선천성 심장병(심장기형) 등이포함된다. 병인별에서는 심장기형을 비롯하여 류마치스 심장병-매독성 심장병-고혈압성 심장병-심장동맥경화성 심장병-폐성심장-세균성 심내막염-심장신경증 등으로 나누어지며, 부정맥이나 방실차단 등의 자극전도계의 장애에 의한 것도 증세의 하나로 볼 수 있다. 심장병은 자각적으로는 무증세인 것에서부터 심장기능상실로 호흡곤란까지 있다. |

| 설명 | 넓은 뜻으로는 I형, II형, III형 및 IV형의 알레르기 반응에 의해서 생기는 모든 병을 가리킨다. 그러나 보통 알레르기병이라고 하면 좁은 뜻을 가리키는 경우가 많고, I형의 알레르기반응에 의해서 생기는 것을 가리킨다. 즉 아토피병과 마찬가지 뜻으로 해석되는 경우가 많고, 기관지천식, 알레르기코염, 알레르기점막염, 두드러기, 아나필락시스 등이 여기에 속한다. |

| 설명 | 퇴행성 뇌병. 노인에서의 치매의 원인 중 가장 흔한 형태이다. 병리조직학적으로는 뇌의 전반적인 위축, 뇌실의 확장, 신경섬유의 다발성 병터(신경섬유뒤틀림)와 노인반(neuritic plaque) 등이 특징이다. 임상적인 특징은 점진적인 기억-판단-언어능력 등 지적인 기능의 감퇴와 일상생활능력-인격-행동양상의 장애이다. 병에 걸리면 초기에는 이름-날짜-장소와 같은 것들이 기억에서 사라지고, 심해지면 화장실을 가거나 요리를 하거나 신을 신는 일 등의 일상생활조차도 잊게 된다. 동시에 우울증세나 인격의 황폐, 격한 행동 등의 정신의학적인 증세도 동반된다. 이러한 증세들이 점전적으로 진행되어 결국은 죽음에 이르게 된다. 발병 후 서서히 죽음에 이르는 기간은 6~8년 정도이지만 사람에 따라 20년이 넘는 경우도 있다. |

| 설명 | 부신겉질의 병터로 인하여 부신겉질의 호르몬이 나오지 못해서 생기는 병. 우리나라에서 가장 많은 원인은 결핵이다. 애디슨병에서는 부신겉질의 파괴에 의해서 부신겉질에서 나오는 호르몬이 없어지므로 콩팥에서 물의 흡수장애로 인해 탈수상태가 지속되며, 스트레스 호르몬의 결핍에 의해서 만성피로, 체중감소 등의 증상이 생기며, 뇌하수체에서 부신겉질의 분비를 높이는 부신겉질자극호르몬의 과다 분비로 인해서 같이 분비되는 멜라닌자극호르몬에 의해 얼굴과 입술에 과도한 색소의 침착을 볼 수 있다. |

| 설명 | 위장관을 침범하는 정확한 원인이 밝혀지지 않은 만성적인 염증성 질환을 말한다. 크게 ‘궤양성 대장염’(ulcerative colitis)과 ‘크론병’(Crohn's disease)의 두 종류로 구분된다. 백인, 유태인에 많고 흑인이나 동양인에는 드물지만 동양인에서 점차 증가추세에 있다. 호발연령은 15~35세 사이이다. 증상은 ‘궤양성 대장염’의 경우, 설사(혈변 및 점액변), 뒤무직, 복통, 복부압통, 체중감소 등이 주로 나타나며 ‘크론병’에서는 설사와 체중감소, 우하복부 종류, 항문주위 이상, 복부압통 등이 나타난다. 진단은 병력과 방사선학적 검사, 직장경 및 대장 내시경검사, 직장 및 대장의 조직검사로 하며 치료는 내과적인 치료가 원칙이나 내과적 치료에 듣지 않거나 합병증이 생길 경우에는 외과적 치료를 시행한다. ‘궤양성 대장염’의 경우에는 ‘대장암’을 예방하기 위해서 외과적 치료를 하기도 한다. ‘궤양성 대장염’과 ‘크론 병’외에 염증성 창자병에 속하는 ‘베체트 병’은 재발성 구강내 궤양, 피부 병변, 안구부 염증, 외음부 궤양, 관절염 증상, 위창자관 증상(복통, 장출혈), 부고환염 등의 증상을 나타내는데 진단과 치료는 ‘궤양성 대장염’, ‘크론 병’과 비슷하다. |

| b and t cell count | A test that measures the respective quantities of B lymphocytes and T lymphocytes. This test is often performed in the analysis of an immune deficiency disorder. Normal values include: 68 to 75% of total lymphocytes are T lymphocytes and 10 to 20% are B lymphocytes. Increased T-cell counts can indicate infectious mononucleosis, acute lymphocytic leukaemia or multiple myeloma. Increased B lymphocytes can indicate chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, multiple myeloma, Waldenstrom's macroglobulinaemia or Di George syndrome. Decreased T-cells may indicate congenital T-cell deficiency, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome or AIDS. | basal cell | <pathology> General term for relatively undifferentiated cells in an epithelial sheet that give rise to more specialised cells act as stem cells). In the stratified squamous epithelium of mammalian skin the basal cells of the epidermis (stratum basale) give rise by an unequal division to another basal cell and to cells that progress through the spinous, granular and horny layers, becoming progressively more keratinised, the outermost being shed as squames.
