Supplementing the water supply of a stream affected by well depletion, in order to protect senior water rights on a stream. Augmentation puts no water in the well. It is not designed to recharge the aquifer.

Musical augmentation is generally accomplished by stating familiar melodic materials in longer-than-ordinary note values: when a theme in quarter notes recurs in whole notes, it is said to be "in augmentation." The opposite procedure is diminution.
