TNF A protein that is present in excess amounts in the skin and other tissues of psoriasis patients. TNF may produce inflammation and joint damage and can lead to increased immune-system function through the activation of T cells.

TNF-receptor–associated periodic s. a periodic fever of autosomal dominant inheritance, caused by mutations in the gene for tumor necrosis factor and characterized by febrile attacks lasting one or two days to two weeks, frequently accompanied by myalgia, abdominal pain and gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, testicular pain, conjunctivitis, periorbital edema, pleuritis, erythematous skin lesions, and arthralgia. There is neutrophilia, and serum C-reactive protein is elevated while the soluble type 1 receptor for TNF-α is decreased. Called also familial Hibernian fever.

TNM s. staging of tumors according to three basic components: primary tumor (T), regional nodes (N), and metastasis (M).
