Psorophora a genus of large, annoying mosquitoes of the tribe Aedini, subfamily Culicinae; their larvae prey on the larvae of other mosquitoes. Some species, particularly P. ferox´ and P. lut´zii, act as carrier hosts of the eggs of Dermatobia hominis.

Psoroptes a genus of mites of the family Psoroptidae, the cause of psoroptic mange (q.v.). P. cuni´culi infests the ears of rabbits and goats; P. e´qui infests horses; and P. o´vis (called also P. bo´vis) causes sheep scab in sheep and scabies in cattle and horses.
