[USP] a suspension of killed Bordetella pertussis organisms (whole-cell vaccine) or a fraction thereof (acellular), either fluid (pertussis vaccine [USP]) or adsorbed on aluminum hydroxide or aluminum phosphate and resuspended (pertussis vaccine adsorbed [USP]); used for routine immunization against pertussis (whooping cough). It is generally used in a mixture with diphtheria and tetanus toxoids (DTP or DTaP).
