n. laryn´geus supe´rior [TA]  superior laryngeal nerve: origin, inferior ganglion of vagus nerve; branches, external, internal, and communicating rami; distribution, inferior constrictor of the pharynx, cricothyroid muscle, and mucous membrane of back of tongue and larynx—see individual branches, under ramus; modality, motor, general sensory, visceral afferent, and parasympathetic. Called also n. laryngealis superior.

n. ru´ber [TA]  red nucleus: a distinctive oval nucleus (pink in fresh specimens because of an iron-containing pigment in many of the cells) centrally placed in the upper mesencephalic reticular formation; it receives fibers from the deep cerebellar nuclei and cerebral cortex and projects fibers to the cerebellum, brain stem, spinal cord, and probably to the thalamus.
