  • Fluorescent Antibody Technique - »õâ Test for tissue antigen using either a direct method, by conjugation of antibody with fluorescent dye (FLUORESCENT ANTIBODY TECHNIQUE, DIRECT) or an indirect method, by formation of antigen-antibody complex which is then labeled with fluorescein-conjugated anti-immunoglobulin antibody (FLUORESCENT ANTIBODY TECHNIQUE, INDIRECT). The tissue is then examined by fluorescence microscopy.
Synonyms : Coon's Technic, Fluorescent Antibody Technic, Immunofluorescence, Immunofluorescence Technic, Antibody Technic, Fluorescent, Antibody Technics, Fluorescent, Antibody Technique, Fluorescent, Antibody Techniques, Fluorescent, Coon Technic, Coon Technique
  • Fluorescent Antibody Technique, Direct - »õâ A form of fluorescent antibody technique utilizing a fluorochrome conjugated to an antibody, which is added directly to a tissue or cell suspension for the detection of a specific antigen. (Bennington, Saunders Dictionary & Encyclopedia of Laboratory Medicine and Technology, 1984)
Synonyms : Direct Fluorescent Antibody Technic, Direct Fluorescent Antibody Technique, Direct Immunofluorescence, Direct Immunofluorescence Assay, Fluorescent Antibody Technic, Direct, Immunofluorescence Technic, Direct, Assay, Direct Immunofluorescence
  • Fluorescent Antibody Technique, Indirect - »õâ A form of fluorescent antibody technique commonly used to detect serum antibodies and immune complexes in tissues and microorganisms in specimens from patients with infectious diseases. The technique involves formation of an antigen-antibody complex which is labeled with fluorescein-conjugated anti-immunoglobulin antibody. (From Bennington, Saunders Dictionary & Encyclopedia of Laboratory Medicine and Technology, 1984)

  • Fluorescent Dyes - »õâ Agents that emit light after excitation by light. The wave length of the emitted light is usually longer than that of the incident light. Fluorochromes are substances that cause fluorescence in other substances, i.e., dyes used to mark or label other compounds with fluorescent tags.

  • Fluorescent Treponemal Antibody-Absorption Test - »õâ Serologic assay that detects antibodies to Treponema pallidum, the etiologic agent of syphilis. After diluting the patient's serum to remove non-specific antibodies, the serum is mixed on a glass slide with Nichol's strain of Treponema pallidum. An antigen-antibody reaction occurs if the test is positive and the bound antibodies are detected with fluoresceinated antihuman gamma-globulin antibody.
Synonyms : FTA ABS Test, FTA-ABS Tests, Fluorescent Treponemal Antibody Absorption Test, Test, FTA-ABS, Tests, FTA-ABS
