| cohort study |
a study in which patients with a given exposure (or lack of it) are grouped and followed over time. The two groups are then compared.. Not as reliable as randomized controlled trials, since the two groups may differ in ways that are not immediately apparent. Other disadvantages include long time needed to do the study, especially if condition is rare. However, can overcome the ethical issues of RCTs.
