STETHACANTHUS Stethacanthus (also spelled Stethacanthes) is a genus of strange-looking extinct sharks from the Carboniferous and Permian periods. They had brush-like denticles on the head, a large protrusion on the back, fin spines, an anal fin, and were about 3 feet (1 m) long.
