pre-eclampsia (Pregnancy-Induced High Blood Pressure/PIH): A pregnancy condition characterized by elevated blood pressure, edema and protein in the urine. Bed rest, relaxation and intravenous medication is usually prescribed in order to avoid eclampsia, a more serious condition characterized by seizures. Labor may need to be induced.
