a syndrome usually seen in middle-aged women with hypochromic anemia, chiefly characterized by cracks or fissures at the corners of the mouth, painful tongue with atrophy of filiform and later fungiform papillae, and dysphagia due to esophageal stenosis or webs. Called also Paterson's s., Paterson-Kelly s., sideropenic dysphagia, and Vinson's s.
