physical therapy Treatment for an exceptional child which helps to maintain or improve his use of bones, joints, muscles, and nerves. This treatment is given by a trained Physical Therapist using methods such as exercise, heat, light and massage. In a developmental assessment, the physical therapist would assess the ability and quality of the child's use of her legs, arms, and complete body by encouraging the display of specific motor tasks as well as observing the child in play.
