dura mater spinalis Single-layered strong membrane, comparable to and continuous with (at foramen magnum) the meningeal layer of the intracranial dura mater of the brain. It does not (in contrast to the dura mater of brain) adhere to the enveloping bony structures (vertebrae) or their periosteum, being separated from the latter by a considerable space, the vertebral epidural space-a true space containing the internal vertebral venous plexus embedded in a matrix of epidural fat.
Synonym: dura mater spinalis, endorrhachis, theca vertebralis.
(05 Mar 2000)
tabes spinalis See Tabes dorsalis.
(12 Dec 1998)
tractus spinalis nervi trigemini <anatomy, nerve> A compact fibre bundle, comma-shaped on transverse section, composed of primary sensory fibres of the portio major of the trigeminal nerve, descending from the level of the entrance of the trigeminus in the upper pons down through the dorsolateral region of the rhombencephalic tegmentum along the lateral side of the descending or spinal nucleus of the trigeminus, emerging on the dorsolateral surface of the lower medulla oblongata as the tuberculum cinereum, and continuing as far as the second cervical segment of the spinal cord. Its fibres are distributed to the descending or spinal nucleus of the trigeminus.
Synonym: tractus spinalis nervi trigemini, descending tract of trigeminal nerve, tractus descendens nervi trigemini.
(05 Mar 2000)
filum durae matris spinalis The thread-like termination of the spinal dura mater, surrounding and fused to the filum terminale of the cord, and attached to the deep dorsal sacrococcygeal ligament; extends from S2-3 to Co2 vertebral levels.
Synonym: filum durae matris spinalis.
(05 Mar 2000)
lemniscus spinalis A large ascending fibre bundle in the ventral half of the lateral funiculus of the spinal cord, arising from cells in the posterior horn at all levels of the cord, which cross within their segments of origin in the white commissure. In their contralateral ascent, the bundle is intermingled with numerous intersegmental fibres. The spinothalamic tract continues from the spinal cord into the brainstem, occupying a ventrolateral position and issuing numerous fibres to the rhombencephalic and mesencephalic reticular formation, to the lateral part of the central gray substance of the mesencephalon, and to the deep and intermediate layers of the superior colliculus; the relatively few fibres (10 to 20%) that remain form the true spinothalamic tract which enters the diencephalon and ends in the nucleus ventralis posterior (caudal part) and intralaminar nuclei of the thalamus. In its ascent in the spinal cord the tract is composed of a dorsal part, the lateral spinothalamic tract, which conveys impulses associated with pain and temperature sensation, and a more ventral part, the anterior spinsothalamic tract, involved in tactile sensation.
Synonym: lemniscus spinalis, spinal lemniscus, tractus spinothalamicus.
(05 Mar 2000)
arcus pedis longitudinalis pars lateralis Formed by calcaneus, cuboid and two lateral metatarsals; the combined arch is supported normally by ligaments, intrinsic muscles, and the tendons of extrinsic muscles of the foot.
Synonym: arcus pedis longitudinalis pars lateralis.
(05 Mar 2000)
arcus pedis longitudinalis pars medialis Formed by the calcaneus, talus, navicular, three cuneiform bones, and the three medial metatarsals.
Synonym: arcus pedis longitudinalis pars medialis.

pars abdominalis aortae <anatomy> The largest arterial conduit below the diaphragm. This term refers to the portion of the aorta below the diaphragm to the bifurcation into the right and left common iliac arteries. It supplies blood to the abdominal viscera, pelvic organs and lower extremities.
(20 Jun 2000)
pars abdominalis ductus thoracici The part of the thoracic duct between the cisterna chyli and the aortic hiatus of the diaphragm.
Synonym: pars abdominalis ductus thoracici.
(05 Mar 2000)
pars abdominalis oesophagi The part of the oesophagus inferior to the diaphragm.
See: oesophagus.
Synonym: pars abdominalis oesophagi.
(05 Mar 2000)
