| pancreatic elastase II |
[EC 3.4.21.71] a serine endopeptidase that catalyzes the cleavage of peptide bonds, preferentially clearing on the carboxyl side of leucine, methionine, and phenylalanine residues. Secreted by the pancreas as the proenzyme proelastase and activated in the duodenum via cleavage by trypsin, it is involved in protein digestion. In a given species, usually either pancreatic elastase or pancreatic elastase II is expressed; in humans it is the latter.
