Boosts or cuts frequencies in the mid range of the frequency spectrum (100 Hz - 10 Khz). A "peaking" control, it tends to make more extreme changes at the mid-range frequencies (around 1 KHz) and less extreme changes at either end of the mid range (100 Hz and 10 KHz).
