Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is an IVF procedure in which a single healthy sperm is injected directly into the egg. With some cases of infertility, the problem may lie in the quality or numbers of sperm (male factor infertility). Either there are too few sperm to fertilize the eggs or there is poor sperm-egg interaction. Using ICSI, a single sperm can be injected directly into the egg.
