| deep palmar (arterial) arch | The arterial arch located deep to the long flexor tendons in the hand. It is formed by the terminal part of the radial artery in conjunction with the deep palmar branch of the ulnar artery. The arch gives rise to palmar metacarpal and princeps pollicis arteries. Synonym: arcus palmaris profundus, arcus volaris profundus. (05 Mar 2000) |

| diffuse arterial ectasia | Spontaneous enlargement with dilation of the vessels in a circumscribed area. (05 Mar 2000) |
| infusions, intra-arterial | Regional infusion of drugs via an arterial catheter. Often a pump is used to impel the drug through the catheter. Used in therapy of cancer, upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage, infection, and peripheral vascular disease. (12 Dec 1998) |
| intestinal arterial arcades | The series of arterial arches formed in the mesentery by anastomoses between adjacent jejunal and ileal arteries and from which vasa recta arise. The arterial arcades of the ileum are shorter and more complex than those of the jejunum. See: arterial arches of ileum, arterial arches of jejunum. Synonym: intermesenteric arterial anastomosis, Riolan's arc, Riolan's arcades. (05 Mar 2000) |
| intra-arterial | Into an artery. (16 Dec 1997) |
| intra-arterial pressure | The pressure of the blood within an artery, the arterial pressure. Also called the arterial tension. (12 Dec 1998) |
| tension, arterial | The pressure of the blood within an artery, the arterial pressure. Also called the intra-arterial pressure. (12 Dec 1998) |
| transposition of arterial stems | Congenital malformation in which the aorta arises from the morphologic right ventricle and the pulmonary artery from the morphologic left ventricle resulting in two separate and parallel circulations. The condition is lethal unless some communication exists between the systemic and pulmonic circulation after birth; otherwise, unoxygenated venous blood inappropriately enters the systemic circulation, and oxygenated pulmonary venous blood is inappropriately directed to the pulmonary circulation. The life sustaining communication may be an intra-atrial passage or a patent ductus arteriosus. Synonym: transposition of arterial stems. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lesser arterial circle of iris | An arterial circle near the pupillary margin of the iris. Synonym: circulus arteriosus iridis minor. (05 Mar 2000) |
