ferrule the ferrule is the plastic wrapping that covers the transition area between the club head and the shaft. It's only real purpose is to make that area look nicer. Some will say it is there to prevent splitting of the shaft but I have splintered many a shaft right at or under a ferrule so I think this is a myth.
