1. This is a collective term for the short fluffy, unzipped feathers closest to the body. They are normally obsured beneath the contour feathers. Their primary purpose is as insulation. 2. These are also the fuzzy feathers on a chick just after hatching. Caiques have a light covering of white down when they hatch.
