| deep cerebral veins | The numerous veins draining the deep structures of the cerebral hemispheres; they empty into the tributaries of the great cerebral vein. Synonym: venae cerebri profundae. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| deep cervical artery | <anatomy, artery> Origin, terminal branch of costocervical trunk (along with superior intercostal artery); distribution, posterior deep muscles of neck; anastomoses, branches of occipital, ascending cervical, and vertebral. Synonym: arteria cervicalis profunda. (05 Mar 2000) |
| deep cervical vein | <anatomy, vein> Large vein running with the artery of the same name between the semispinalis capitis and semispinalis cervicis draining the deep muscles at the back of the neck and emptying into the brachiocephalic or the vertebral vein. Synonym: vena cervicalis profunda. (05 Mar 2000) |
| deep circumflex iliac artery | <anatomy, artery> Origin, external iliac; distribution, muscles and skin of lower abdomen, sartorius and tensor fasciae latae; anastomoses, lumbar, inferior epigastric, superior gluteal, iliolumbar, and superficial circumflex iliac. Synonym: arteria circumflexa iliaca profunda. (05 Mar 2000) |
| deep circumflex iliac vein | <anatomy, vein> Corresponds to the artery of the same name, and empties, near or in a common trunk with the inferior epigastric vein, into the external iliac vein. Synonym: vena circumflexa iliaca profunda. (05 Mar 2000) |
| deep cortex | <anatomy> Mid cortical region of lymph node, area that is particularly depleted of T lymphocytes in thymectomised animals and is referred to as the thymus dependent area. (18 Nov 1997) |
| deep crural arch | Thickened inferior margin of the transversalis fascia seen as a fibrous band running parallel and posterior (deep) to the inguinal ligament, contributing to the posterior wall of the inguinal canal as it bridges the external iliac-femoral vessels from the iliopectineal arch to the superior pubic ramus. It marks the inferior edge of the deep inguinal ring and the medial margin of the femoral canal. Seen only when the inguinal region is viewed from its internal aspect, it is a useful landmark in laparoscopy of this region, as for repair of inguinal herniae. Synonym: deep crural arch, Thompson's ligament. (05 Mar 2000) |
| deep dorsal sacrococcygeal ligament | <anatomy> The continuation of the posterior longitudinal ligament uniting the sacrum and coccyx. Synonym: ligamentum sacrococcygeum posterius profundum, deep posterior sacrococcygeal ligament. (05 Mar 2000) |
| deep dorsal vein of clitoris | A tributary of the vesical venous plexus; it runs a course deep to the fascia on the dorsum of the clitoris. Synonym: vena dorsalis clitoridis profunda. (05 Mar 2000) |
| deep dorsal vein of penis | A vein on the dorsum of the penis deep to the fascia of the penis; it is a tributary to the prostatic venous plexus. Synonym: vena dorsalis penis profunda. (05 Mar 2000) |
| deep epigastric artery | <anatomy, artery> Origin, external iliac; branches, cremasteric, muscular and pubic; anastomoses, superior epigastric, obturator. With overlying peritoneum, forms lateral umbilical ligament and forms a basis for distinguishing types of inguinal herniae: direct hernias pass medial to the artery; indirect hernias pass laterally. Synonym: arteria epigastrica inferior, deep epigastric artery. (05 Mar 2000) |
| deep epigastric vein | <anatomy, vein> Corresponds to the artery of the same name and empties into the external iliac vein just proximal to the inguinal ligament. Synonym: vena epigastrica inferior, deep epigastric vein. (05 Mar 2000) |
| deep facial vein | <anatomy, vein> The communicating vein that passes from the pterygoid venous plexus of the infratemporal fossa to the facial vein; it is devoid of valves. Synonym: vena faciei profunda. (05 Mar 2000) |
| deep femoral vein | <anatomy, vein> The vein that accompanies the deep femoral artery, receiving perforating veins from the lateral and posterior aspects of the thigh. It joins the femoral vein in the femoral triangle, usually in common with the medial and lateral circumflex femoral veins. Synonym: vena profunda femoris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| deep fibular nerve | <anatomy, nerve> One of the terminal branches of the common peroneal nerve, arising at the fibular neck and passing into the anterior compartment of the leg; it supplies the tibialis anterior, extensor hallucis longus, extensor digitorum longus, and peroneus tertius muscles in the leg, then crosses the ankle joint to supply the muscles on the dorsum of the foot (extensors hallucis and digitorum brevis) becoming cutaneous to innervate adjacent sides of the great and second toes. Synonym: nervus fibularis profundus, nervus peroneus profundus, anterior tibial nerve, deep fibular nerve. (05 Mar 2000) |
