construct validity
one of the forms of validity for an operational definition. If a test has "construct validity" then it measures what it says it measures, or rather there is evidence that it measures what it says it measures. There are various standard ways of trying to establish that a test has "construct validity." One standard way is triangulation. ...

construct validity
Experimental research makes a statement about the psychological significance and quality of measurement regarding a diagnostic test. Usually, comparisons are made with other indicators and methods of measurement (eg an investigation is made into the relation between two different intelligence test methods. As both methods measure the same construct, the correlation coefficient between the two should be very large.)

construct validity
the extent to which the measurement corresponds to theoretical concepts (constructs) concerning the phenomenon under study. For example, if on theoretical grounds, the phenomenon should change with age, pain severity, or function, a measurement with construct validity would reflect such a change. Construct validity is assessed by hypothesizing the relationship (Streiner and Norman 9 call this a mini-theory) between the measure and another measure (ie, clinician-rated disease severity). ...
