| common law |
Law that originated in English Courts and continues to develop over time in places which derived their legal system from England. 'Common' here means 'applying to everyone'. It can be altered by Statute Law as well as decisions by the Courts. The Court interpretation of new Statute Law also becomes a part of Common Law.
