choke
An inductor used as part of an electrical filter that resists the flow of current at specified frequencies, usually used to block high-frequency transients from incoming a/c power. As deployed in surge suppression strips, chokes (torroidal chokes) are available only in the highest quality surge suppression systems (Isobar level products from Tripp Lite use torroidal chokes and rod-core inductors for high frequency surge and noise suppression).

choke
A filter device consisting of an inductor and a resistor. Although more expensive than a typical RC filter, they exhibit better performance.

choke
A valve in the carburetor to allow the intake of air to be reduced for cold starting. Reducing the air intake, increases or richens the fuel mixture (more gas, less air).
