atrioventricular (AV) i. the time between the start of atrial and the start of ventricular systole; it is equivalent to the P–R interval of electrocardiography.

atrioventricular (AV) junctional escape b. a depolarization initiated in the atrioventricular junction when one or more impulses from the sinus node are nonexistent or ineffective. Click here to view image■Atrioventricular junctional escape beat (arrow) following a pause created by a nonconducted premature atrial complex (distorting the third T wave). The premature atrial complex is not conducted because it is very early; a pause results, which is terminated by the escape beat. The sinus P wave immediately preceding the escape beat is too close to have been conducted.

atrioventricular (AV) junctional escape r. a cardiac rhythm of four or more AV junctional escape beats at a rate below 60 beats per minute, the impulses originating in the AV junction due to absence of normal impulse generation by or conduction from the sinus node or atria.
