This is the use of vaccines as a measure to control the disease. Vaccination may be used to suppress shedding of the Foot-and-Mouth virus to reduce contamination and risk of spread (suppressive vaccination), but is an interim measure only, and vaccinated animals will still need to be slaughtered.
