TLV stands for Threshold Limit Value. It is the occupational exposure limit established by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH). TLV is a registered trademark of ACGIH. TLVs are adopted by some governments as their legal limits. (See Exposure Limits for a general explanation.)

Thin-layer chromatography. A chromatographic procedure used to identify drugs of abuse in urine using a thin layer of material such as silicon as a carrier. The separated substances are dyed, and the resultant color and migration patterns are used to identify the drugs in question.

A radiation detector worn by an individual. The readout process is based on the fact that the amount of light released by this detector, when heated, is related to the absorbed radiation dose and, in turn, to the wearer's radiation exposure. The term is also used generically to describe the radiation badge in total, including TLD material and track-etch dosimetry.
