IBD Chronic inflammation of the bowel common to a group of conditions that includes Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. The conditions cycle through periods of activity and remission. Periods of inflammatory activity cause diarrhoea, pain, bloody stools and poor absorption of nutrients.
