glandula serosa An exocrine gland that produces a watery, protein rich secretion, as opposed to a carbohydrate rich mucous secretion.
(18 Nov 1997)
glandula sublingualis The smallest of the three major salivary glands. It is located. It lies under the floor of the mouth close to the midline.
(12 Dec 1998)
glandula submandibularis The second largest of the three major salivary glands. It is located deep to the mandible (jaw bone).
(12 Dec 1998)
glandula suprarenalis See adrenal gland.
(12 Dec 1998)
glandula thyroidea A butterfly-shaped endocrine gland in the neck that is found on both sides of the trachea windpipe). It secretes the hormone thyroxine which controls the rate of metabolism.
(27 Sep 1997)
glandula thyroidea accessoria An isolated mass, or one of several such masses, of thyroid tissue, sometimes present in the side of the neck, or just above the hyoid bone (suprahyoid accessory thyroid gland), or even as low as the arch of the aorta.
Synonym: glandula thyroidea accessoria, accessory thyroid, prehyoid gland, suprahyoid gland, thyroidea accessoria, thyroidea ima, Wolfler's gland.
(05 Mar 2000)
glandula uropygius A compound alveolar gland of birds located on the dorsum of the tail or pygostyle; the secretion of this gland (fatty acids and wax) exits from a papilla on the dorsal surface at the base of the tail feathers; the bird applies the substance to its feathers by means of the bill when preening. The uropygial gland is lacking in some species but its waterproofing ability is essential to water birds.
Synonym: glandula uropygius, oil glands, preen gland.
(05 Mar 2000)
glandula vestibularis major One of two mucoid-secreting tubuloalveolar glands on either side of the lower part of the vagina, the equivalent of the bulbourethral glands in the male; ensheathed with vestibular bulbs by ischiocavernosus muscles. Thus erection and muscle contraction cause secretion into vestibule of vagina.
Synonym: glandula vestibularis major, Bartholin's gland, Duverney's gland, Tiedemann's gland, vulvovaginal gland.
(05 Mar 2000)
glandulae areolares A number of small mammary glands forming small rounded projections from the surface of the areola of the breast; they enlarge with pregnancy and during lactation secrete a substance presumed to resist chapping.
Synonym: glandulae areolares, Montgomery's follicles, Montgomery's glands.
(05 Mar 2000)
glandulae bronchiales Lymph nodes in the hilum of the lung that receive lymph from the pulmonary node's, and drain to the tracheobronchial nodes.
Synonym: glandulae bronchiales, bronchial glands, hilar lymph nodes, nodi lymphatici bronchopulmonales.
(05 Mar 2000)
glandulae buccales Numerous racemose, mucous, or serous glands in the submucous tissue of the cheeks.
Synonym: glandulae buccales, genal glands.
(05 Mar 2000)
glandulae ceruminosae Tubuloalveolar glands of the external auditory meatus believed to be modified apocrine sweat glands; they secrete the waxy substance cerumen.
See: ceruminous glands.
(05 Mar 2000)
glandulae cervicales uteri See: anterior cervical lymph nodes, lateral deep cervical lymph nodes, lateral superficial cervical lymph nodes.
Branched mucus-secreting glands in the mucosa of the cervix.
Synonym: glandulae cervicales uteri, cervical glands of uterus.
(05 Mar 2000)
glandulae ciliares A number of modified apocrine sudoriferous glands in the eyelids, with ducts that usually open into the follicles of the eyelashes.
Synonym: glandulae ciliares, Moll's glands.
(05 Mar 2000)
glandulae circumanales Synonym: circumanal glands.

  • Glicentin - »õâ A 69-amino acid peptide derived from the N-terminal of PROGLUCAGON. It is mainly produced by the INTESTINAL L CELLS. Further processing of glicentin yield a 30-amino acid N-terminal peptide (glicentin-related polypeptide) and a 37-amino acid peptide OXYNTOMODULIN. Both glicentin and oxyntomodulin can reduce digestive secretions and delay gastric emptying.
    Synonyms : Glicentine, Proglucagon (1-69)
  • Gliclazide - »õâ An oral sulfonylurea hypoglycemic agent which stimulates insulin secretion.
Synonyms : Alphapharm Brand of Gliclazide, Diabrezide, Diaglyk, Diaikron, Diamicron, Gen-Gliclazide, Generics Brand of Gliclazide, Genpharm Brand of Gliclazide, Gliklazid, Glyade, Glyclazide, Helsinn Brand of Gliclazide, Novo-Gliclazide, Novopharm Brand of Gliclazide, S-1702
  • Glioblastoma - »õâ A malignant form of astrocytoma histologically characterized by pleomorphism of cells, nuclear atypia, microhemorrhage, and necrosis. They may arise in any region of the central nervous system, with a predilection for the cerebral hemispheres, basal ganglia, and commissural pathways. Clinical presentation most frequently occurs in the fifth or sixth decade of life with focal neurologic signs or seizures.
