| FSH |
FSH is a hormone secreted into the bloodstream that controls the growth of eggs, or oocytes, and the production of the female hormone, estrogen, by the ovaries. By the time a woman reaches menopause, usually between ages 40 and 56, the remaining eggs in the ovaries do not respond well to FSH, and the level of FSH in the bloodstream increases in an attempt to stimulate the ovaries.
