A test used to evaluate the amount of fat within a patients stool. Feces are collected for several days and then measured for the amount of fat present. If the amount of fat in the stool is greater than a and 7 g over 24 hours, a malabsorptive type problem is usually present. This test is extremely useful in assessing patients with diarrhea and weight loss.
