dimethyl sulfoxide Partially oxidized sulfur gas, formula (CH 3 ) 2 SO, which finds large use as a solvent, but due to low volatility does not exist in the atmosphere in high concentrations. Found in marine aerosols, and thought to be a partial oxidation product of dimethyl sulfide.
