dihydrotestosterone <chemical> Chemical name: Androstan-3-one, 17-hydroxy-, (5alpha,17beta)-
(12 Dec 1998)
dihydrouracil 5,6-Dihydrouracil;a reduction product of uracil and one of the intermediates of uracil catabolism.
(05 Mar 2000)
dihydrouracil dehydrogenase <enzyme> Uses nad
Registry number: EC 1.3.1.1
Synonym: dihydrothymine dehydrogenase
(26 Jun 1999)
dihydrouracil oxidase <enzyme> Oxygen dependent; no cofactor required, forms uracil irreversibly; enzyme from rhodosporidium toruloides
Registry number: EC 1.3.3.-
(26 Jun 1999)
dihydrouridine <biochemistry> An unusual pyrimidine which is the result of adding two hydrogen atoms to a uridine (another nitrogenous base). It is found only in tRNA molecules.
(09 Oct 1997)
dihydroxy- <prefix> Prefix denoting addition of two hydroxyl groups; as a suffix, becomes -diol.
(05 Mar 2000)
dihydroxyacetone <chemical> 1,3-dihydroxy-2-propanone. A ketotriose compound. Its addition to blood preservation solutions results in better maintenance of 2,3-diphosphoglycerate levels during storage. It is readily phosphorylated to dihydroxyacetone phosphate by triokinase in erythrocytes. In combination with naphthoquinones it acts as a sunscreening agent.
Chemical name: 2-Propanone, 1,3-dihydroxy-
(12 Dec 1998)
dihydroxyacetone phosphate This is an intermediate molecule involved in the fourth step of glycolysis. Dihydroxyacetonephosphate is created from fructose 1,6-bisphosphate. In step 5, it is converted into its positional isomer, glyceraldehyde3-phosphate, with the aid of triose-phosphate isomerase.
(09 Oct 1997)
dihydroxyaluminum aminoacetate Dihydroxy(glycinato)aluminum; (glycinato-N,O) dihydroxyaluminum;basic aluminum glycinate, a basic aluminum salt of aminoacetic acid containing small amounts of aluminum hydroxide and aminoacetic acid; used as an antacid in hyperchlorhydria and peptic ulcer.
(05 Mar 2000)
dihydroxyaluminum sodium carbonate Aluminum sodium carbonate hydroxide;a gastric antacid.
(05 Mar 2000)
dihydroxycholecalciferols Cholecalciferols substituted with two hydroxy groups in any position.
(12 Dec 1998)
dihydroxydihydrobenzopyrenes <chemical> Benzopyrenes saturated in any two adjacent positions and substituted with two hydroxyl groups in any position. The majority of these compounds have carcinogenic or mutagenic activity.
Pharmacological action: carcinogens, mutagens.
(12 Dec 1998)
dihydroxynaphthalene oxygenase <enzyme> Also catalyses ring cleavage in an extradiol mode: between a hydroxylated and an adjacent non-hydroxylated carbon
Registry number: EC 1.13.-
Synonym: 1,2-dihydroxynaphthalene dioxygenase
(26 Jun 1999)
dihydroxyphenylacetic acid reductase <enzyme> Converts dihydroxyphenyl acetic acid to dihydroxyphenylethanol
Registry number: EC 1.-
Synonym: dopac reductase
(26 Jun 1999)
dihydroxytryptamines Tryptamine substituted with two hydroxyl groups in any position. Some are cytotoxic serotonin analogs that are preferentially taken up by serotonergic neurons and then destroy those neurons.
