COX-2 inhibitor A nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that specifically inhibits an enzyme known as cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). These drugs are used to treat pain and may be less likely to cause gastrointestinal bleeding than other NSAIDs.

Cox proportional hazards m. a method of analysis of multiple factors (variables) that influence an actuarial curve of the risk of a given negative outcome such as disease occurrence or death. A hazard rate is computed for each separate variable (e.g., among those patients with that factor who had not previously suffered a negative outcome, how many subsequently suffered the negative outcome during a short interval) and cumulative hazard rates are computed for the combinations of variables that exist in actual situations.
