| 설명 | 심장의 박동이 불규칙하고 정상에서 벗어날 경우(이를 부정맥이라 한다)에 전기적 충격을 가해서 심장을 정상적인 박동을 하게 만드는 것을 심율동전환이라고 한다. 이것은 부정맥의 가장 확실한 치료법으로 외부심장율동전환(external cardioversion)과 내부심장율동전환(internal cardioversion)으로 나눈다. 외부심율동전환의 경우는 12cm의 지름을 가진 두 개의 판으로 가슴부위에 전기적 자극을 가하여 부정맥을 치료하는 것이고, 내부심율동전환은 심장의 내부에 전극을 심고 그 전극을 통해서 전기적 자극을 가해서 부정맥을 치료하는 것이다. |

| 설명 | 손목에는 아홉 개의 힘줄과 한 개의 신경이 통과하는 굴이 있는데 이곳을 손목굴이라 하고, 이곳을 지나는 신경이 눌리면 새깨손가락을 제외한 네 손가락이 아프고 저린 증상이다. 이것을 손목굴증후군이라 한다. 검사 방법으로는 근육 검사와 신경전달검사가 있다. 심할 때는 아침이나 저녁에 아파서 잠을 깨고 손목뿐만 아니라 어깨까지 아프다. 손목을 굽히고 있으면 통증이 심하다. 손목을 반복적으로 사용하는 운전자, 가정주부, 악기 연주자, 공장라인의 근로자, 컴퓨터 사용자, 목수가 해당된다. 손바닥뼈가 깨지거나 넘어지면서 손바닥으로 짚었을 때도 발생하며 드물게 진동하는 공구를 사용해도 나타나기도 한다. 임산부, 통풍, 류마티스 관절염, 갑상샘 기능 저하증, 당뇨병 등이 있을 때 이런 증상이 올 수 있다. 여자에게 더 많고 주로 자주 쓰는 손목이 해당된다. 심할 때는 손목에 땅콩만한 크기로 부어오른다. 누르면 안으로 쑥 들어가기도 하고 다시 움직이면 튀어나온다. 손목뼈 여덟 개 중에 반달뼈라 불리는 작은뼈의 인대가 이완되어 생긴다. 통증을 감소하는 치료로 부목, 얼음찜질, 이뇨제, 항생제를 사용하기도 하며 통증이 계속되면 코르티코스테로이드 호르몬을 손목부에 주사하여 통증을 줄인다. 부작용으로는 재발률이 높다. |

| 설명 | 약간 딱딱하고 휘어지는 성질을 가진 특별한 조직을 이르는 말. 귀, 코 등 신체의 휘어질 수 있는 부분을 이루고 있으며, 관절에 존재하여 충격을 완충하는 역할을 한다. 어린이에게서는 뼈의 말단에 존재하며 뼈를 생성하여 뼈를 성장하게 하는 역할도 한다. 연골은 그 특성에 따라서 유리연골(hyaline cartilage), 탄성연골(elastic cartilage), 섬유연골(fibrocartilage)의 3가지로 나눈다. 유리연골은 가장 흔한 형태의 연골로 코의 중격이나 대부분의 관절에 존재한다. 약간 탄성이 있으며 약간 투명하고 푸른빛이 돈다. 탄성연골은 탄력성이 아주 좋은 연골로 귀 등을 이루고 있다. 노란빛을 띠고 불투명하다. 섬유연골은 연골과 섬유성 조직의 중간형태의 연골로 거의 탄성이 없고 척추사이의 척추간원반(intervertebral disc) 등 몇몇의 관절에 존재한다. |
