| 1,25-d. |
the most active metabolite of cholecalciferol, synthesized in the kidney from 25-hydroxycholecalciferol; it increases intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphate, enhances bone resorption, and prevents rickets. Because these activities occur at sites distant from its site of synthesis, it is considered a hormone. Called also calcitriol and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3.
