| Warthin-Starry silver s. |
a method for staining Bartonella and spirochetes. A smear is air-dried, immersed in absolute ethanol, washed in distilled water, and incubated in 2 per cent silver nitrate. The cover glass is then developed in a mixture of silver nitrate, gelatin, glycerol, agar, and hydroquinone. Organisms appear black on a light background.

a benign, usually solitary, typically flesh-colored to brown elevated papule with a depressed and crusted center containing a keratotic plug, occurring in association with the pilosebaceous unit, especially on the scalp, face, neck, and axilla, and principally seen in older men. Histologically, it resembles the individual lesion of keratosis follicularis. Called also isolated dyskeratosis follicularis.
