sat. One of the three tones (eg 5.97, 6.00 & 6.03 kHz in AMPS) sent by the base station to the mobile to uniquely identify voice channels in the same geographic location using the same frequency. The SAT is sent by the base station, and transponded by the mobile back to the base station. If the tone sent is different from the tone received the call is terminated. If SAT reception is lost by either, the call will be terminated.
