A low-level object from which higher-level, more complex objects can be constructed. Primitives are basic predefined 2D and 3D shapes such as circles, spheres, cubes, spirals, multi-sided figures, and so on. These primitives can be used "as is" or modified. Typically, you select a primitive form and then transform it or combine it with other modified pieces, which is much easier than drawing an object point by point.
