| vestibular caecum of the cochlear duct | <anatomy> The lower extremity of the cochlear duct, occupying the cochlear recess in the vestibule. Synonym: caecum vestibulare, vestibular blind sac. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| vestibular wall of cochlear duct | The membrane separating the cochlear duct from the vestibular canal; it consists of squamous epithelial cells with microvilli toward the ductus, a basement membrane, and a thin layer of connective tissue toward the scala. Synonym: membrana vestibularis, paries vestibularis ductus cochlearis, Reissner's membrane, vestibular wall of cochlear duct. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vitelline duct | The narrow tube connecting the yolk sac with the midgut of the embryo; persistence of all or part of it in post-foetal life produces abnormalities, of which the commonest is meckel's diverticulum. (12 Dec 1998) |
| Pecquet's duct | <anatomy> The major efferent lymph duct into which lymph from most of the peripheral lymph nodes drains. Recirculating lymphocytes that have left the circulation in the lymph node return to the blood through the thoracic duct. (18 Nov 1997) |
| cervical duct | See: cervical diverticulum. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cervical part of thoracic duct | The portion of the thoracic duct above the first rib. Synonym: pars cervicalis ductus thoracici. (05 Mar 2000) |
| perilymphatic duct | A fine canal connecting the perilymphatic space of the cochlea with the subarachnoid space. Synonym: ductus perilymphaticus, aqueductus cochleae, cochlear aqueduct. (05 Mar 2000) |
| mesonephric duct | A duct in the embryo draining the mesonephric tubules; in the male it becomes the ductus deferens; in the female it becomes vestigial. See: longitudinal duct of epoophoron. Synonym: ductus mesonephricus, wolffian duct. (05 Mar 2000) |
| right duct of caudate lobe | The bile duct from the right half of the caudate lobe, a tributary to the right hepatic duct. Synonym: ductus lobi caudati dexter. (05 Mar 2000) |
| right hepatic duct | The duct that transmits bile to the common hepatic duct from the right half of the liver and the right part of the caudate lobe. Synonym: ductus hepaticus dexter. (05 Mar 2000) |
| right lymphatic duct | One of the two terminal lymph vessels, a short trunk, about 2 cm in length, formed by the union of the right jugular lymphatic vessel and vessels from the lymph nodes of the right superior limb, thoracic wall, and both lungs; it lies on the right side of the root of the neck and empties into the right brachiocephalic vein. Synonym: ductus lymphaticus dexter, ductus thoracicus dexter. (05 Mar 2000) |
| metanephric duct | The slender tubular portion of the metanephric diverticulum; the primordium of the epithelial lining of the ureter. See: epoophoron, longitudinal duct of epoophoron. (05 Mar 2000) |
| persistent mullerian duct syndrome | <syndrome> Familial disorder with presence of fallopian tube, uterus, and testis in a male. Deficient mullerian inhibitory substance secondary to Sertoli cell defect. Synonym: hernia uteri inguinale. (05 Mar 2000) |
| choledoch duct | <anatomy> A duct that carries bile from the liver and gallbladder to the duodenum (first part of the small intestine). (27 Sep 1997) |
| guttural duct | A tube leading from the tympanic cavity to the nasopharynx; it consists of an osseous (posterolateral) portion at the tympanic end, and a fibrocartilaginous (anteromedial) portion at the pharyngeal end; where the two portions join, in the region of the sphenopetrosal fissure, is the narrowest portion of the tube (isthmus); the auditory tube enables equalization of pressure within the tympanic cavity with ambient air pressure, referred to commonly as "popping of the ears". Synonym: tuba auditiva, tuba auditoria, eustachian tube, guttural duct, otopharyngeal tube, otosalpinx, pharyngotympanic tube, salpinx, tuba acustica, tuba eustachiana, tuba eustachii.
