linkage equilibrium When the observed frequencies of haplotypes in a population agrees with haplotype frequencies predicted by multiplying together the frequency of individual genetic markers in each haplotype.

linkage group A group of gene loci known to be linked; a chromosome. There are as many linkage groups as there are homologous pairs of chromosomes. See synteny.

linkage Association of genes and/or markers that lie near each other on a chromosome. Linked genes and markers tend to be inherited together.

linkage group A group of genes chained together by linkage relationsships.

linkage Co-inheritance of two (or more) specific alleles of different genes (or markers) because their loci are close together on the same chromosome of a homologous pair. After meiosis these alleles remain together and thus are inherited more often than the 50% random association by chance expected from unlinked genes, ie they co-segregate. Using RFLPs as markers requires their detection with a probe.
