inositol trisphosphate Inositol 1, 4, 5 trisphosphate is important as a second messenger. It is released from phosphatidyl inositol bisphosphate by the action of a specific phospholipase C enzyme (PLC_) and binds to and activates a calcium channel in the endoplasmic reticulum.
