impedance monitor A device used to detect variations in respiratory rate and volume, by measuring changes in the electrical impedance of the chest as the patient breathes. It may be used in intensive care units to monitor critically ill patients
Ãâó:
impedance plethysmograph A device that uses gas-to-tissue ratio to set an alarm or measure a volume.
Ãâó:
impedance p. a technique for detecting blood volume changes in a part by measuring changes in electrical resistance; used in the diagnosis of deep venous thrombosis. Electrodes are placed around the calf and a pneumatic cuff around the thigh is inflated just enough to cause venous occlusion and then rapidly deflated. The drop in voltage is recorded; it is smaller in a lower limb with deep venous thrombosis than in a normal limb.

impedance The total opposition (ie resistance and reactance) a circuit offers to the flow of alternating current. It is measured in ohms, and the lower the ohmic value, the better the quality of the conductor.

impedance A term in electronics which measures the amount of opposition a device has to an AC current (such as an audio signal). Technically speaking, it is the combined effect of capacitance, inductance, and resistance on a signal.
