| epidermitis, exudative, of swine | An acute generalised dermatitis of pigs which occurs from 5 to 35 days of age, characterised by sudden onset, with morbidity of 10 to 90% and mortality of 5 to 90%. The lesions are caused by staphylococcus hyos but the bacterial agent is unable to penetrate the intact skin. Abrasions on the feet and legs or lacerations on the body frequently precede infection.
