disinfectant A chemical (commonly chlorine, chloramines, or ozone) or physical process (eg, ultraviolet light) that kills microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses and protozoa.

disinfectant An agent used to completely destroy all harmful bacteria. Labeling for such materials requires proof of effectiveness for registration with EPA.

disinfectant An agent that destroys harmful bacteria and/or viruses on inanimate surfaces (except spores). Most common types include Quaternary Ammonium Compounds, Phenolic Compounds, Pine Oil (at least 70%).
