dihydropyrimidinase <enzyme> Catalyses the hydrolytic cleavage of imides that range from linear to heterocyclic and that include hydantoins, dihydropyrimidines and phthalimides; displays stereoselectivity and stereospecificity for some substrates
Registry number: EC 3.5.2.2
Synonym: hydantoinase, hydropyrimidine hydrase, dhpase, dihydropyrimidine acid hydrolase, dihydropyrimidine amidohydrolase, imidase, dihydropyrimidine aminohydrolase

dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase <enzyme> An enzyme in pyrimidine biosynthesis that reacts 5,6-dihydrouracil with NADP+ to form uracil and NADPH; it also acts on dihydrothymine; a deficiency of this enzyme can result in hyperuracil thyminuria.
Synonym: dihydrouracil dehydrogenase.

dihydroxyacetone <chemical> 1,3-dihydroxy-2-propanone. A ketotriose compound. Its addition to blood preservation solutions results in better maintenance of 2,3-diphosphoglycerate levels during storage. It is readily phosphorylated to dihydroxyacetone phosphate by triokinase in erythrocytes. In combination with naphthoquinones it acts as a sunscreening agent.
Chemical name: 2-Propanone, 1,3-dihydroxy-
(12 Dec 1998)
dihydroxyacetone phosphate This is an intermediate molecule involved in the fourth step of glycolysis. Dihydroxyacetonephosphate is created from fructose 1,6-bisphosphate. In step 5, it is converted into its positional isomer, glyceraldehyde3-phosphate, with the aid of triose-phosphate isomerase.
(09 Oct 1997)
dihydroxyaluminum aminoacetate Dihydroxy(glycinato)aluminum; (glycinato-N,O) dihydroxyaluminum;basic aluminum glycinate, a basic aluminum salt of aminoacetic acid containing small amounts of aluminum hydroxide and aminoacetic acid; used as an antacid in hyperchlorhydria and peptic ulcer.
