coronary artery disease Also called Heart Disease or Atherosclerosis. This term is used to describe the gradual narrowing of the coronary arteries from the accumulation of plaque in the arterial wall. This leads to a reduction of blood flow to the heart muscle and may result in symptoms (angina). Not all patients experience symptoms of CAD. However, if left untreated, CAD eventually may cause a complete interruption of coronary blood flow, resulting in a heart attack or Myocardial Infarction.

coronary artery disease A condition in which the arteries become narrowed or blocked. Narrowing can cause insufficient blood supply with resulting lack of oxygen to the heart tissue, which can manifest itself as angina. If blood vessels become blocked, there is no blood supply so muscle cells die through lack of oxygen and this is an AMI.
